Prayers Requested

Hello Loved Ones,

Since we learned the news of Mila's rare disease we have been awaiting her evaluation with the Myhre Syndrome Clinic, out of Mass General Hospital, in Boston.  That is where all your generous donations have gone.  That time has come and we (Mila, Michelle and I) will be there this week.  We do not have much to report but would love
for you to pray for us this week.  

Pray for Mila.  That she is both strong and protected during all her tests and appointments. Our heart aches when she goes through tests so pray she feels safe and secure.
Please pray for Michelle, that she is brave and that all news can be received with peace that passes all understanding. 

Pray for me that I can be strong and courageous for my girls and that I have the wisdom to both understand who I need to be for them and what steps need to be taken as Mila's father.
Pray that we have ears to hear and understand what we are being told, to not fear any hard information that is going to be delivered, and to not believe that what can happen will happen.  

Pray that we all can find rest in the Lord.

We will send an update at the end of the week.

Mila Update

It has been a while since we sent an update and that is thankfully because things have been good. We have all remained healthy, except for a broken foot (Sofia) and a trip to the ER for Mila. With her it is a reversal of the traditional 4th child feeling. Typically, the more kids you have, the more relaxed you are when someone gets hurts. This is not how we are with our Mila. She fell and hit her head which prompted an immediate 911 call and trip to the ER. Thankfully there was no internal bleeding, just a concussion but we learned a lot from this experience. We learned that we do treat her more delicately. We learned that people in the medical field know NOTHING about Myhre Syndrome, but are more vigilant when you say rare disease. We have been blessed with a great team of doctors who are sympathetic to our situation. Mila and Myhre (Chiari Malformation)

My alarm, which is set to music, woke me this morning with the words "You are not hidden." Since Mila's diagnosis, "hidden" would be the correct word to describe what was going on with her, until recently. Now it, the thing formerly hidden, seems to be coming to the surface. There have been plenty of things known about her syndrome. We have known that she would be small and slow to develop. Over the past few months she has started school and her size and development compared to her peers are evident not just in comparison, but in how she is treated. We have known that her mobility and endurance would be less than other kids. Of late, while others play she seems to hang back and watch, unable to do as others do. We have known her hearing was deteriorating and in September Mila received her first hearing aids. These things were known to us and we saw them gradually become more prevalent. Chiari Decompression Surgery

Well POOP.  Today we met with the Neuro Surgeon to hear the results of the MRI.  As a refresher we had an MRI of Mila's entire spine to check for pooling of fluid or the formation of cysts  (related  to Chiari Malformation), Spina bifida and tethered cord.  If you would have asked Michelle and I what we thought would be the outcome we would have predicted correctly. There is no presence of any deformity in Mila’s lower spine which we praise the Lord for.  We were concerned because with Chiari there is a connection to Spina Bifida and we found a bump above Mila's bottom.  This was just shown to be fatty tissue! Tethered Cord was also a non issue, praise the Lord.   Regarding the pooling of fluid at her C1 and C2 vertebrae,  there is a noticeable difference, "more prominent” from the last MRI 6 months ago.
