What seems small to us, they can be huge!

When you have multiple kids a few things happen.  This is not how you would wish, nor is it your intention, but because of busyness you become less sentimental.  With your first kid you dwelt on every new development.  You waited with a camera to capture each spoonful or with a recorder to record a sound.  You keep notes and document the first year of life as if you will be paid for it's contents.  When kids 2 and 3 come along you loose a little of that. ( Luca, and Roman, it is not intended and we do not love you any less we are just busy being in the moment not documenting it. )  Since we have been waking through this trial with Mila, the small seem big again.

This weekend at church was the first time we were going to drop Mila off at childcare.  Traditionally she would be in an "orange class" with other walking, crawling toddlers but because of her size (still only 13 pounds) we talked to some of our friends in child ministry and they supported us going with the newborns.  This was eye opening.  Developmentally she is with babies 1-6 months not toddlers.  She needed the 1:1 attention.  Michelle caught on to this way before I did and for her witnessing it was very hard as evident by the tears streaming down her face.  Part of the reason we wanted her in childcare was so we could watch a sermon and worship uninterrupted.  Unfortunately, we were still texted to the nursery because Mila was not calming down.  The gravity of that text weighed heavy for Michelle.

In earlier posts I had mentioned that Mila was the picture perfect baby (she still is) because she was sleeping through the night.  Since then we have had interrupted sleep every night.  We do not know why but Mila is prone to waking as frequently as every 1.5-2 hours.   Since we know that something is going on and that our job is to consult for symptoms, one symptom we would like to rectify is the sleep.  For us both, the nights can be very long especially when your mind can wonder.  For me the devil can truly creep in during the silence of the night, sort of like having "Idol hands."  This does neither of us good given what we could assume about this exhaustive wait for a diagnosis.  Truly we can survive the sleep, we are kindof used to it, but poor Mila!  That little girl needs it for brain development and growth.  So let's figure it out!

Last week we did go to the pulmonologist.  One thought was that she had poor lung development which was causing sleep apnea.  We confirmed, and praise the Lord, that her lung development is fine!

So next was go back to a neurologist who specializes in sleep.  That was yesterday.  This Doctor was awesome!  There were a few specific signs he was fishing for like "Stranger danger" or visual awareness.  He felt Mila was doing great and even called her "Hyper Vigilant."  He kept saying she is developing fine and he would be surprised by her genetic diagnosis.... That was an amazing, divine, statement to hear after all we have heard to the contrary.

Prayers are being heard, keep it up!

James 5:16, Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

Matthew 18:20,For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.”
